DEPARTMENT OF VACCINES AND

BIOLOGICALS PRODUCTION

I. FUNCTION

The Department of Vaccines and Biologicals has six units:

Ø       Laboratory of BCG vaccine production.

Ø       Laboratory of rabies vaccine production.

Ø       Laboratory of biological production

Ø       Regional laboratory for Quality Control.

Ø       Animal house.

The functions of these laboratories consist of:

-         Production of freeze-dried heat-stable intradermal BCG vaccine used for the EPI in Vietnam.

-         Production of rabies vaccine for prevention and treatment used in the southern Vietnam.

-         Production of  diagnotic bioproducts

-         Regional laboratory for Quality Control at Pasteur Institute has the following responsibilities:

ú          To control the quality of vaccines produced in HCM City and imported vaccines on demand.

ú          To supervise the quality of vaccines used in the EPI or in some pilot studies.

-         Animal house supplies experimental animals for analysis and research laboratories in Pasteur Institute of HCM City and for other institutes, hospitals, universities, colleges in the provinces of the Southern Vietnam.
