Vietnamese Requirements to evaluate the general safety for vaccines has not been unified and realistic. Rabies vaccines asked for 14 days of observation meanwhile DTP vaccine only needs 7 days. The margin of gainweight under the observation is not given. This retrospective consideration provides some data of mice and guinea-pig that were used to test the general safety of rabies vaccines and other biological products (BP) at QC lab from 1987-2000.

Mice with Rabies vaccine IC and IP injection gained 3-3.5g (23-24.5%) after 1 week and 5.5-6.3g (41-43%) after 2 weeks observation.

Guinea-pig quarantine and guinea-pig injected with NaCl 0,9% gained 3335g (1113%) in 1W and 90g (24%) in 2Ws. Meantime, guinea-pig given Rabies vaccines and other BPs IP got 1530g (59% weightgained) after 7 days and 4060g (1819%) after 14 days.

The rate of gaining weight of mice and guinea-pig at QC lab was lower than in some of other manufactures that were reported. So, the improvement in animal care system needs to be fulfill.
