From June to August 1995, a study concerning KABP on HIV/AIDS prevention of general population aged 15-49 was carried out in HoChiMinh city and two provinces of the Southern Vietnam. 840 study subjects in each province were selected by 30 clusters random method. Information was collected by a standard questionnaire using the direct interview method. Results indicated that most of them were aware of the transmission modes (86.5%) and the prevention measures against HIV/AIDS (74.5%-82.7%). However, behavior regarding safer sex represented by condom use was in a low rate (22.1%). Therefore, in HIV/AIDS prevention activities, the key IEC strategy (Information, Education and Communication) should be focused on risk behavior change.
