Cases of "Acute Encephalitis Syndrome" and deaths were reported annually in all 19 provinces in Southern Vietnam. Sporadic cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome were reported throughout the year. Serological diagnoses of Japanese Encephalitis were confirmed by MAC-ELISA tes. From 1999 to 2002, its positivity rate was 34.43 %, varied rates from 12% to 40% depending on areas. Japanese Encephalitis virus was not isolated during 1999-2002. The antibody positivity rate from MAC-ELISA test among swine in some places to JE was also high. From the MAC-ELISA’s data, Southern Vietnam was shown to be an endemo-epidemic area of JE virus infection.
