Abstract:

In 2001, a epidemic of aseptic meningitis spread throughout in the northern of Vietnam. Most of the Patient were hospitalized in June with the first diagnosis was Japanese Encephalitis. Virologist studies of 200 CSF samples were selected randomly from samples that had been tested as negative with Japanese Encephalitis by IgM ELISA-capture method. The results were identified on cell culture and showed that: 41% was positive with Echovirus 30 and 2.5% was positive with Echovirus 6. From these results , we thought that Echovirus 30 were considered as causative agent of this epidemic. Here is the first report of aseptic meningitis epidemic due to Enteroviruses from patients with first diagnosis was Japanese Encephalitis in Vietnam.
