SEROLOGICAL SURVEILLANCE OF HANTAVIRUS HEMORRHAGIC FEVER WITH RENAL SYNDROME IN SOUTHERN VIETNAM, 1998 – 2002

A Sero-Epidemiological survey reveals that 2% of 300 rubber plantation workers in Dongnai province were positive for IgG antibodies to Hanta virus. 3,67% of whom had positive sera when tested by IFAT. Another survey reveals that 5,32% of 94 hygiene workers in Bienhoa City where positive for IgG antibodies. 7,45% of whom had positive sera when test by IFAT. Employees aged 20 to 50 are most affected by Hanta virus and sex are not the risk factor. The positive rate of IFAT in 251 patients suspected of HFRS in HCMC and its surrounding are was 21,15%. In 5 years, the average positive rate for 1998 – 2002 is 4.23%. The average positive in rattus is 2.73%. The above results demonstrate that there Hantavirus in studied areas and is a causal agent of aute haemorrhagic Fever with renal syndrome in humans
