SOME EPIDEMILOGICAL CHARACTERS OF DEATHS CAUSED BY DHF IN SOUTHERN VIETNAM, 2000

ABSTRACT

The retrospective study of deaths due to Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in 19 provinces of southern Vietnam in 1999 and 2000 is as follow: The main death age group was under 15 years old (93%), especially at the age of 5 – 9; 81.6% of them were in South – west provinces (Mekong Delta region). Almost of them were hospitalized too late (3 – 4 days after the onset of disease). The deaths occurred on first 24 hours and on 3rd – 6th day of hospitalization were accounted for 58.1% and 93% respectively. Most of deaths occurred in provincial hospital (58.1%) then district hospital (37.2%).
