ABSTRACT
The retrospective study of deaths due to Dengue Haemorrhagic
Fever (DHF) in 19 provinces of southern Vietnam
in 1999 and 2000 is as follow: The main death age group was under 15 years old
(93%), especially at the age of 5 – 9; 81.6% of them were in South – west
provinces (Mekong Delta region). Almost of them were hospitalized too late (3 –
4 days after the onset of disease). The deaths occurred on first 24 hours and
on 3rd – 6th day of hospitalization were accounted for
58.1% and 93% respectively. Most of deaths occurred in provincial hospital
(58.1%) then district hospital (37.2%).
