A 54-day-old infant with grade II Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) was reported. He had clinical manifestations fulfilling the WHO criteria for diagnosis of DHF: high fever, bleeding tendencies (petechia, bleeding from injection sites), hemoconcentration, and thrombocytopenia. The diagnosis of DHF was confirmed by MAC-ELISA and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). PCR revealed that he was co-infected by two Dengue virus serotypes (DEN-2 and DEN-3). This report emphasizes that DHF can occur in very young infants, and we believe this reported case to be the youngest infant with DHF transmitted by the mosquito so far.
