THE EFFECTS OF PERMETHRINE-IMPREGNATED CURTAIN (OLYSET-NET) TO CONTROL AEDES AEGYPTI-VECTOR OF DENGUE FEVER IN BINH CHANH, HOCHIMINH CITY, 1995

Dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an endemic, with high incidence and mortality, often occurs in Vietnam. Controlling vector, that means preventing from being bite by Ae. aegypti is the best way to avoid this disease. The treatment of Permethrine-impregnated curtain is one of these methods.

In according to the modern developed economics, Olyset-net a product was researched and produced by Samitomo corporation was applied in the field and well assessed by National Hygiene and Epidemiology Institute Hanoi.

The results from field trial carried out by Pasteur Institute HCM City indicated to:

-         Olyset-net has a good activity on Ae. aegypti. The activity took a peak in the third week after treatment with a decrease of 88%, then down gradually.

-         Because of hot climate and environmental condition (too much dust particle), there are an rapid decreasing of it’s activity, that can keep about 30 weeks if there are good maintaining and washing with hot water at an interval of 2 months.

-         Olyset-net is not only good on controlling Ae. agypti but also in other insects, particularly on Culex fatigans, a common specie with dense population in Southern provinces.

-         Most of trial householder confirmed that Olyset-net has very good effect to control mosquito, it is simple, easy method, not harmful and affected normal life. But, owning to economical condition, 30% of them volunteers to buy curtain at reasonable price.
