EXPANDED PROGRAM ON IMMUNIZATION
IN SOUTHERN REGION OF

To achieve full immunization coverage
in children under one year old with the rate of >90%.

To achieve 80% of TT2 for pregnant women
and 90% of the 2nd dose of tetanus toxoid (TT2) for childbearing age-women in high
risk districts.
-
To achieve 80% of infants protected from
neonatal tetanus at birth.
-
All children under 5 years old will receive
2 doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV) on the regional immunization days in the 6 provinces
bordering with

To introduce hepatitis B vaccine, typhoid
vaccine and cholera vaccine into EPI in high-risk areas which were selected by the
Ministry of Health.

To reduce cases of diphtheria, pertussis
and measles by 20% as compared with the previous year
-
This is the fourth year that no wild poliovirus
case was detected.

To achieve elimination of neonatal tetanus
in districts.
EPI ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Since
1985 the EPI has been implemented in the whole country, starting with 6 vaccines
and later expanded to new vaccines such as JE, HBV, cholera and typhoid
•
The
morbidity of childhood vaccine preventable diseases has been remarkable decreased
•
On
December 15, 2000, in Ha Noi, Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh, on behalf of Vietnamese Government,
declared solemnly that

The
achievements of the E.P.I. in recent years were the results of efforts by the Communist
Party and the Government, as well as active contribution by the medical branch and
of the efforts of the entire society as well as intelligence in people's health
care.
